Vietnam welcomed 427,935 visitors, an increase of 4.4% compared to the last month’s figure and 37.7% compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Department.
More than 80,000 visitors traveled to Vietnam by road, up 68.2% compared to the same period last year. 342,938 tourists, an increase of 33% compared to the last year’s figure, came to Vietnam by air. However, the number of cruise visitors decreased by 6.2% or 4,500 tourists less than last year.
Altogether, in the first eight months of this year, Vietnam received 3,348,456 visitors, an increase of 35.2% compared to the same period of last year.
From now to the end of this year, the number of international tourists to Vietnam is expected to increase as the tourism sector has launched several promotion programs such as “Impressive Vietnam Grand Sale 2010” program to attract more tourists.
So far, nearly 50 businesses, shops, supermarkets and shopping centers in Hanoi have registered to launch promotion programs to attract visitors.
